In the glittering world of innovation and technology, Christopher Pembroke of the New York Pembroke’s is a force to be reckoned with. Notorious playboy and COO of InnoTech Solutions, New York’s top tech startup, Chris is known for his cold nonsense work ethic and his charmingly arrogant persona. But the world he lived in never prepared him for a woman he’d loathed since the day she scored better on him on their final in college.
Sidney Thorndale, a rising star as an Innovation Strategist has been hired by InnoTech’s board of directors to spearhead a new initiative to turn around a critical innovation and product development issue that has resulted in a massive downturn in their quarterly revenue. Forced to work near Christopher, her old college rival, to get her innovation project “FutureEdge” off the ground and help InnoTech’s profits return, Sidney has to play nice, or she can kiss her promotion goodbye. But that’s easier said than done with Christopher and her clashing at every turn. Eventually, the tension splits and Chris and Sidney can work together, and it’s a precarious relationship to start. As sparks fly just beneath the animosity, Sidney and Chris find themselves drifting closer and closer as the project continues to progress. Despite the professional repercussions they might face, their attraction to one another is undeniable.
After sharing in a huge milestone win for the project, Sidney and Christ find themselves entangled with each other and their emotions. As tensions and stress escalate so do the rocky waters between Sidney and Chris who try and fail to keep their professional facades in place to protect their hearts. But some past issues are too much even for people who are right for each other as Chris and Sidney. Strained and fraying at the ends, their relationship hits a brick wall before crumbling into dust before their eyes. With the project still underway, Chris and Sidney throw themselves into their work exchanging cold, flat emails and avoiding contact.
Realizing their mistakes, Sidney and Chris manage to come together when it matters and discover that despite their preconceived notions of the others, there’s a very fine line between love and hate.
